Rubies are one of nature’s wonders. Cultures through time have recognized and idolized the hardness, sturdiness, and density of rubies. Their metaphysical properties have long been loved as well with beliefs swirling about their ability to provide personal protection. Some even thought that the stone could conjure a peaceful existence, and keep the wearer safe from danger and damage. Rubies have been worn as amulets, added to the foundation of buildings, and embedded into skin and weapons. 

This wondrous necklace hails from India, a place where some beautiful rubies have originated. Given the subcontinent’s history of having fabulous rubies, it’s no surprise that this stone is often featured in Indian mythology. One Hindu text in particular describes a precious tree used for ideal offerings to the gods as this miracle tree was said to bear rubies as fruit.
