The latest of our incredible rare finds, this impressive kornerupine stone boasts an incredible greenish tint. Kornerupine usually has more of a greenish brown hue. But this baby is green, green—like a drop of dew on a shoot of grass in early spring. Like an electric, minty bud peeking out of the tip of a flowering tree. Like a natural mountain pool dancing in the late afternoon sun.

The story of this stone’s discovery is one of natural beauty and rugged determination. In the 1880’s, Andreas Kornerup was trekking around the southwest of Greenland, in the Kangerluluk area. Lonely and remote, this mountainous region sees some crazy weather—from fierce snow storms and hail, to bone chilling temperatures. Treacherous fjords and diverse fauna that are more common than people. Is this nature guarding some of her best kept secrets? We think so as gold, copper and rare minerals populate the Earth’s crust in this wild place. It was here that Kornerup came across what would be classified as his namesake mineral, kornerupine.

Kornerupine is famed for its exceptional fire and brilliance thanks to the mineralogical structure of the gem, which can create a veritable rainbow of colors in certain light. We have been searching high and low for a gem quality kornerupine. When we saw her, we were bowled over as they aren’t usually large. But this baby is 2.76ctw, making her even more rare and unique. We knew our only choice was to wrap her lusciously in 22K gold for the one who loves all things rare and wondrous.
