What You Should Know: Part of our newest collection in partnership with Jewels By Grace! A beautiful 19th century antique old mine cut diamond kept in its original silver buttercup setting and re-imagined into a captivating pendant! Diamond is open-backed and originates from a Victorian necklace.

One of our fav new projects in partnership with Jewels by Grace! We love taking beautiful components of historic pieces and re-imagining them into even more lovely and wearable treasures. Once part of a Victorian necklace, this magnificent 19th century .77ctw Old Mine Cut diamond is in its original silver buttercup setting.

The buttercup setting was wildly popular in Victorian times. The prongs are carved directly into the mounting and emanate from u-shaped scallops, giving the impression of a buttercup flower. Everyone in the Victorian era was positively obsessed with flowers so it is no wonder that this popular setting was all the rage.

There is something so pure, childlike, and wonderful about buttercups, one of the sweetest jewelry designs around. Victorians believed buttercups signified childish impetuousness though today the flowers enjoy a more positive association like joyfulness, playfulness, and innocence. Buttercups remind us to live in the moment, find joy in the simple pleasures, and maintain a positive and lightheartedness. This type of cheerful bliss is, of course, best when shared. Indeed, giving a gift of buttercups—especially when bedecked by such a beautiful stone as most buttercup settings are—is an act of goodwill and infinite kindness.

Some jewelers refer to this setting as the Belcher setting after an American jeweler named Thomas Belcher. But we prefer the sweetness and significance of calling her by her more romantic name.

On a 14K gold ball chain, this baby is the actual and utter perfect everyday piece. Simple yet elegant, classic and historic. She’s a never take off kinda lady.
