**This Ring Can Be Resized

Humans have been obsessed with diamonds even before we could cut them into the sparkly, faceted angels that we know and love.

The road to making diamonds more beautiful has been long. Legend has it that a 16th century French king devised a disastrous method of testing stones that were thought to be diamonds: he smashed them against an anvil to see if they could withstand the blow. Since diamonds can be cleaved along their planes, it is likely that this ruined many lovely diamonds.

More reasonable diamond cutters used a method in which they would rub diamonds together to make a groove. Once they got it wide enough, they would insert the sharp edge of a cleaving knife then hit the knife with force, causing the stone to break into pieces of varying sizes. The best stonecutters knew how to use this approach to maximize the resulting diamond size and beauty.

The stonecutter who shaped this extraordinary diamond was a genius. That whopping 1.42ct old mine cut diamond center stone has a grading of approximately G SI2. Surrounded by about a carat of icy white mine cut diamonds (approx. G SI2), this halo honey hails from the high heavens!
