There is so much history behind engagement and wedding rings. Most believe the practice dates back to the ancient Egyptians, who believed that the ‘vein of love’ linked the heart and the third finger of the left hand. We know this because the ancient Egyptians documented important events like marriage, births and deaths. Hieroglyphs from over 3,000 years ago show the wearing of betrothal rings on the left ring finger.

Rings have been symbols of love and devotion throughout history. They have been part of Christian marriage ceremonies as far back as the mid-800s and were often decorated with romantic engravings, like doves and linked hands. But Christian leaders eventually labeled embellished rings as ‘heathenish’. Therefore, rings became much far more simple. Tastes continued to shift, including which finger was most appropriate for betrothal and marriage rings. In 17th century England it was common to wear a wedding ring on the thumb.

Today we have it right—people can choose the ring that makes them happiest whether it’s ornate and glamorous or simple and lovely. This beautiful ring brings the best of both. A 1.25ctw solitaire stunner in a clean and sophisticated setting with a well-crafted shank and band. A marriage of platinum and yellow gold, and a lasting symbol of love and partnership.
