Some of the world’s most beautiful emeralds come from the Andes Mountains. The inhabitants of these mountains have treasured emeralds for generations.

The Incas, who ruled the Andes Mountains for centuries, have a legend that centers on a massive emerald inside a big mountain. But it was not just any gem. It was the lifeblood of the land—the source of rivers, and progenitor of crops. One day, the god of the underworld, Supay, demanded that the Incas give him the enormous emerald as a sacrifice. Otherwise, he threatened, he would unleash eternal drought and famine. One brave young woman offered herself as a sacrifice instead of the gem in an attempt to save her people. Supay, impressed by her courage, relented. He was humbled by her love of humanity and touched by her selflessness. He retreated back underground and she became a hero.

This amazing emerald ring is a product of the Art Deco era, which favored sparing yet daring use of color. That 1.97ctw emerald is from Colombia and is surrounded by over a carat of icy white diamonds. A great combination of natural elements and industrial Deco design.
