While there is evidence that the ancient Egyptians used platinum in decorative objects almost 3,000 years ago, the art was lost for most of humankind’s history. It wasn’t until the 1600’s that the Spanish unknowingly (re)discovered platinum during the conquest of South America. The conquistadors stumbled upon a white material in what is now referred to as Ecuador and Colombia but presumed it was a lesser form of silver and subsequently cast it aside. Eventually, samples were sent back to Europe for further research and its true value was discovered and platinum was deemed The King of Metals.

Throghout the Edwardian and Art Deco Eras, platinum was the ultimate choice is the jewelry industry. This exquisite platinum ring was crafted in the 1930s when the use of platinum in jewelry was at its height between the two World Wars. A 1.14ct Old European Cut diamond is set inside an openwork square platinum frame. A verticle row of three diamonds sits on either side of the architecturally influenced face, affixed to a new platinum shank.

This ring is a marriage of strength- the durability of platinum, the endurance of diamonds, and the power of incredible design.
