The word garnet has roots in the medieval Latin word, granatum, roughly translated to seed. A likely choice due to garnet’s undeniable resemblance to the deep red hue of pomegranate seeds.

In ancient Greek mythology, Persephone was bound to live in the underworld with Hades. Separated from her love of springtime flowers while with Hades and from him when she traveled to the mortal world, Persephone refused to eat anything but pomegranate seeds. Since the Victorians were an incredibly symbolic bunch, pomegranate seeds, and in turn garnets, came to represent of separated love.

This exquisite Victorian half loop ring features five of the most beautiful garnets we have seen. The facets in the old step cut stones delightfully catch the light from all angles, while the hand engraved detailing on the profile and shank add a feminine touch. We adore the sophisticated pop of color this ring has to offer, not mention its subtle symbolism and rich history.
