In 1598, the Edict of Nantes was passed by King Henry IV of France. It granted religious freedom and ended a violent civil war between Catholics and Protestants. After this history-changing decree, King Henry IV incorporated the pomegranate into his heraldic badge to represent his beliefs. Just as the pomegranate is “sour, yet sweet”, he chose to reign with both severity and kindness. Garnets, from the Latin word “garanatus” (meaning seedlike referencing pomegranates) have also been likened to royalty, and carry the same nature and symbolism as their namesake.

When we re-invented these Georgian Era foiled garnet components into golden hoops for our Re-Imagined Collection, we were reminded of the historical reference. Just as King Henry used pomegranates to represent balance, we think these garnets pack a double punch. Exuding both strength and delicacy, beauty and irregularity , the past and present. A perfect harmony.
