During the 18th century, there were incredible advancements in the field of astronomy. Halley’s comet streaked across the sky in 1759, Galileo's literature describing craters on the moon was heavily popularized, and the first planet that is unseen by the naked eye was spotted through Herschel's telescope. Everyone’s eyes were turned upward with curiosity and amazement, inspiring science, art, and even dress.

Around this time, a new trend in jewelry was emerging from France. Bague au Firmament, or Rings of the Heavens, were inspired by the night sky. Dazzling diamonds were set on blue enameled backgrounds like stars twinkling after dark.

This magnificent 18th century Bague au Firmament was reimagined from an antique brooch. It boasts both old mine and rose cut diamonds, weighing at almost 3 carats. The contrast of the shimmering diamonds against the deep blue guilloche enamel navette frame is undeniably celestially. Simply heavenly.
