She’s a classic! This .75 carat solitaire diamond is about as sleek and splendid as it gets.

We love the sweet engraving on the inside: ‘11.27.14 E.A.W to E.L.D’. We don’t know who either of the E’s are but we can see that they both had amazing taste. We do know, however, that 1914 was a time of great change—the first steamboat passed through the Panama Canal, stainless steel items became available to the public, and President Wilson declared Mother’s Day a holiday. And of course, World War I started.

The jovial ethos of the Edwardian era tapered off and people began to hide or sell their jewelry. Platinum, in particular, became scarce since it was useful for the war effort. But our favorite 1914 jewelry fact comes from the Queen City Ring Co. This Buffalo-based company ran a magazine ad depicting a Fairy Queen scattering diamond rings to outstretched hands. Unfortunately, the ads were banned after children started demanding diamond rings instead of quarters from the tooth fairy. It just goes to show that, in any era, diamond rings have always ubiquitous and beloved.

This cherished solitaire stunner has seen a lot of love over more than a century and she’s certainly reflected countless rays of light—just perfect for the true light of your life.
